This course aims to provide an overview of privacy rights and responsibilities in the education sector as well as give you an understanding of how the law is applied in practice.
The topics in this course focus on:
- when and how schools can collect personal information
- what information can schools reasonably collect
- how schools need to protect and handle the personal information they have collected
- schools’ obligations when people ask to see their own or their children’s personal information, or that of other students
- schools’ obligations in relation to the need of change any incorrect information
- when and how and to whom staff can disclose personal information to help someone in trouble
- what staff should consider before sharing or publishing students’ personal information
- responsible approaches for using third-party software or apps that collect students’ personal information.
